A 3-unit course is equivalent to a 3-hour
(lecture) class period per week. Classes are usually scheduled Tuesday and
Thursday (TTH), and Wednesday and Friday (WF) with 16 hours per meeting.
Classes can also be scheduled on Mondays or Saturdays with three (3) hours per
session. (Some classes are also schedule
differently subject to the offering unit’s decision and policies).
As a general rule, classes should be dismissed
at least 10 minutes before the end of the period, with the option to make it 15
minutes for students who need more time to get to their next class. The last
class
(5:30 – 7:00 pm) is not covered by this rule.
The section is determined by the hour and the
day the class is held. The codes for the classes held during a specific time of
the day are as follows:
Q - 7:00 – 8:30 am W - 1:00 – 2:30 pm
R - 8:30 – 10:00 am X - 2:30 – 4:00 pm
U - 10:00 – 11:30 am Y - 4:00 – 5:30 pm
V - 11:30 – 1:00 pm Z - 5:30 – 7:00 pm
Thus, a class held 7:00-8:30 am Tuesday and
Thursday has a section of THQ; if on Wednesday and
Fridays, the section will be WFQ. Classes with
multiple sections scheduled at the same time (parallel sections) would have the
same day/time code. However, to differentiate one section from another, they
are numbered e.g., THQ1, THQ2, etc.
